A Category D Vehicle is a salvaged car or vehicle which has been damaged to the extent that the associated retail cost of its repair would not exceed the retail pre-accident value thereof, effectively Category D salvage means damaged repairable. This category therefor is very similar to our "damaged repairable" however the difference in terminology can attract different types of vehicle sale. Category D vehicles are more likely to be being sold by a larger salvage dealer.
Buying a lightly damaged but repairable vehicle can be a good money maker - you can often find salvaged or refurbished parts for much cheaper than buying a new part. Many amateur mechanics buy Category D salvage in their spare time, fixing up the car back to its original pre-accident state and then re-selling it - this can be a good hobby to hone your mechanics skills and also can earn you a fair amount of money.
